OUR HISTORY

1979
Opening
Broad Street DIY was first opened in 1979 on Broad Street in Sidemoor by Tony & Linda Warren, when they returned to their hometown of Bromsgrove after living in Australia. Back then local deliveries were made by Tony and his brother Tim with a trailer hitched to an old Cortina before our tipper trucks came along. The shop was a great success, but it was Sunday trading that really put us on the map with Tony's innovative way of getting round the Trading Laws... by selling onions!

2001
New Premises
In 2001 we made the bold move to leave Sidemoor and open a bigger store on the Worcester Road with a large Landscaping Yard in nearby Factory Lane.

2002
Lisa Joins
Although a much larger premises, family is still very much at the heart of Broad Street DIY with Linda also working at the new store with her husband Andy and Diane’s daughter, Lisa joined us in 2002.The day to day running of the store is now managed by Paul, Brian, & Lisa but Tony is still 'The Boss' and he's always around to give any advice you may need... in between trips abroad of course. In addition to family, we also have staff members who have been with us for many years, providing our customers with consistency and a 'familiar face' in addition to product knowledge gained over the years.

2010
Kitchen and Bathroom Showroom Opens
We have a new kitchen and bathroom showroom upstairs and also offer a measuring service where Stuart is on hand to help you plan your kitchen layout using ArtiCAD design software.

2011
New Trucks
We have expanded our delivery fleet to include 2 tipper trucks, a transit van and a Hiab grab truck to enable us to provide our customers with a speedy delivery service 6 days a week.

2013
The Next Generation
The last 10 years have seen us welcome the third generation into the family business with 2 of Paul’s sons Sam and Robbie working at the shop before heading off to university and then Paul’s youngest son Liam joined in 2013 with Lisa's daughter, Madison. Although Madison also left us for university, Liam has stayed with us and is now cutting timber with his great-uncle Tim.By showing the youngsters how important our customers are to our family business and teaching them how to provide knowledgeable, friendly service we can ensure that our high standards and values continue in the years to come as our story continues.

2016
New Till System
Business has gone from strength to strength and since moving to Worcester Road we have introduced a new computerised accounts system and put in touch screen EPOS tills to provide quicker, smoother transactions.

2017

We were nominated for the DIY week awards in 2017. We won the award for Retailer Of The Year. We proudly display all of our awards in our office.
